Official notice
The JUPAS calendar states that 5pm on 2 July 2027 is the deadline for applicants in the CATI-5 category who meet residence requirement (b) to submit their immigration record, and that 5pm on 16 July 2027 is the deadline for CATI-5 applicants to submit a valid identity document. The JUPAS eligibility page states that the CATI-5 category requires a Hong Kong identity card together with a dependant visa or entry permit (the holder must have been under 18 when the Immigration Department first issued it), plus satisfaction of one of the residence requirements. For the 2027 JUPAS exercise, the page sets out a transitional arrangement under which the residence requirement covers a one-year period: (a) the applicant studied full-time at a school recognised by the EDB as providing a regular curriculum in Hong Kong during the one-year period ending 31 May 2027, and completed enrolment on or before 15 September 2026; or (b) an applicant who does not meet (a) must submit an immigration record applied for from the Immigration Department on payment of a fee, covering that one-year period, to show that the applicant was not outside Hong Kong for more than 90 days in the period. For 2027 the period covered is stated as 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027, with no more than 90 days outside Hong Kong. From the 2028 JUPAS exercise onwards, the residence requirement becomes a two-year period. A separate passage on the same eligibility page states that the deadline for submitting the immigration record under (b) is 31 May of the relevant JUPAS year.
Gradepath analysis
These rules affect only applicants holding a dependant visa, but for the families concerned this is the one gate in the whole application that has nothing to do with academic performance and can still void the application. The first thing to establish is which route applies. If you are studying full-time at a recognised school and completed enrolment on or before 15 September 2026, route (a) applies and no immigration record is needed. Everyone else falls under (b) and must apply to the Immigration Department, on payment of a fee, for a record covering 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027 showing no more than 90 days outside Hong Kong in that year. The second point is that the two official passages do not carry the same date: the calendar gives 5pm on 2 July 2027 as the submission deadline, while the eligibility page states the deadline as 31 May of the relevant JUPAS year, and the site does not explain how the two relate. Since that cannot be resolved from the pages themselves, the only safe course is to complete the application and submission before the earlier date of 31 May — an immigration record has to be applied for and paid for, and takes time to issue; it cannot be produced on the day of the deadline. Third, the 90-day limit is absolute: if the past year included a long absence (medical treatment on the mainland, an overseas exchange, for example), dig out the travel records now and do the arithmetic yourself, because exceeding the limit has no remedy. Finally, note the second gate at 5pm on 16 July: CATI-5 applicants must submit a valid identity document. July holds exactly two deadlines that exist for you alone, and missing either undoes a year of preparation.
