Under the 2026/2027 Secondary School Places Allocation calendar, the second P6 internal assessment sits between 12 and 17 November, with exact dates set by each school. All three internal assessments carry equal weight and together determine the S1 central allocation band.

The common mistake is assuming only the P6 assessments matter: all three carry identical weight, so for a child who lost ground in the first, the second is the last real window to recover. It also collides with the discretionary place submission period in early December. Newly-arrived pupils lose most marks in English vocabulary and long-sentence comprehension; since ranking is relative within the cohort, every point recovered in English moves the Band 1 line.
