Use the same HKID for your HKDSE entry and your JUPAS account — a mismatch hides your results

JUPAS requires the same HKID number for opening the account and entering the HKDSE; anyone who entered under another document must update their details with the HKEAA promptly.

Official notice

The JUPAS page on HKDSE examination results states that applicants holding HKDSE results from previous and/or the current sitting must use the same identity document — that is, the same HKID number — both to create a JUPAS account and to enter the HKDSE with the HKEAA. This arrangement ensures that the JUPAS Office, the 9 participating institutions and the SSSDP institutions can obtain from the HKEAA all of the applicant's previous and/or current HKDSE results, including result certificates where applicable. The "points to note" on the same page state that an applicant who did not enter the current HKDSE using an HKID must contact the HKEAA as soon as possible to update the entry information, and that an applicant who used a different identity document (that is, not an HKID) for a previous HKDSE sitting must, upon receiving the relevant notification from the JUPAS Office, notify the JUPAS Office through the JUPAS account. The page warns that if the identity document details do not match, the JUPAS Office and the institutions will be unable to obtain all of the applicant's previous and/or current HKDSE results from the HKEAA; in that case, as the institutions cannot access the complete results, the application for admission may be affected. The page also states that, when submitting an application, the applicant must authorise — through the "Declaration" page in the account — the JUPAS Office and the institutions to obtain the HKDSE results from the HKEAA and to use them for admission assessment, and that applicants need not submit their previous and/or current HKDSE results to the JUPAS Office themselves.

Gradepath analysis

What makes this rule unnerving is that it does not trigger a warning when you submit; it takes effect where you cannot see it. What institutions see at assessment time is "the results successfully obtained from the HKEAA". If the identity documents do not match, the missing sitting does not appear as "missing" — it simply is not there. Admissions staff have no way of knowing something is absent, and neither do you. Three groups are most at risk: non-Chinese-speaking or newly arrived students who entered the HKDSE on a passport or other travel document; repeat candidates who entered in earlier years on a non-HKID document and later obtained an HKID; and applicants whose name or document number has changed. For the first two the official instruction is "must contact the HKEAA as soon as possible" and "must notify the JUPAS Office" — both are obligations to act, not a matching exercise the office performs for you. In practice this does not have to wait until next year: check now that the document number on your HKEAA entry is exactly the same as the HKID number you will use to open the JUPAS account, and if they differ, contact the HKEAA today. It is one of the few administrative tasks where acting early is cheap and leaving it until after results release leaves no remedy at all. Also note the official line: you do not need to submit HKDSE results yourself — what you must do is complete the authorisation on the "Declaration" page.
