HKCC IEC: several class preferences allowed, but waiting places skip Saturday classes
The official form asks applicants to rank classes by preference. If all choices are full, waiting places may be allotted; those are limited and do not apply to Saturday classes, and classes marked with an asterisk have only a few places.

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir’s official IEC application form (January 2027 intake) includes a “Class Preference” section: applicants must rank the classes they wish to join with reference to class time and location, 1 being the first choice, 2 the second choice, 3 the third choice, and so on. The Important Notes state that classes will be allotted according to the preferences of successful applicants: if the first choice is full, the second choice will be arranged, and so on. If all the choices indicated are full, waiting places will be allotted; waiting places are limited, and if all indicated choices and all waiting places are occupied, no further allocation will be made. Waiting places are not applicable to Saturday classes. Classes marked with an asterisk offer only a limited number of places for mid-year entry.
Gradepath analysis
This is the most underestimated field on the whole form: ranking preferences is not about naming a favourite class, it is answering “what if my first choice is full”. The rule is harshest for Saturday classes, which have no waiting places at all — if the choices are full, that is the end of it. Elementary class E* (Saturday, 9:55 am to 11:10 am) is the only Saturday class on the form. Classes marked with an asterisk offer only a limited number of places for mid-year entry, so there is little room to allocate them. In practice: list every class you can genuinely attend, ordered by how reliably you can get there. Do not enter only one ideal time slot, and do not list classes you cannot attend in the hope of landing a waiting place.
