UCAS 2027 Entry: Oct 15 for Oxbridge and Medicine, Jan 13 Equal Consideration for Most

The UCAS 2027 cycle is open. The 15 October deadline covers Oxford, Cambridge and medicine/dentistry/veterinary courses; most undergraduate equal-consideration date is 13 January 2027. Hong Kong candidates must also note special ESAT test windows.

All UK undergraduate applications go through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service), with up to five course choices per applicant. The 2027 cycle dates are fixed: the UCAS search tool showed 2027 courses on 28 April 2026, applications opened on 12 May for account creation and preparation, and completed applications (with reference and fee) could be submitted from 1 September 2026.

The first hard deadline is 6pm UK time on 15 October 2026, covering all undergraduate courses at Oxford and Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses. Late submissions are still accepted but universities need not give equal consideration. Applicants usually sit admissions tests (MAT, PAT, TSA, ESAT, UCAT and others) in October or November, so tests and essays must advance together before October.

The equal-consideration date for most undergraduate courses is 6pm UK time on 13 January 2027. Applications submitted on or before then must be treated on equal footing; after that, courses review only where places remain. For Hong Kong students this date is the planning spine — aim to finalise the personal statement, reference and language scores before January.

UCAS Extra opens on 25 February 2027: if all five choices are declined or withdrawn, one extra choice can be added at a time. 6pm on 30 June is the last moment to receive applications with choices, after which files automatically enter Clearing; Clearing opens on 2 July with vacancies shown in the search tool. After A-Level and IB results in August, students convert to unconditional offers and apply for the CAS visa.

Hong Kong candidates must note test-window specifics. Imperial College’s published ESAT for 2027 entry has two sittings: 12–16 October 2026 and 4–8 January 2027; but candidates in China, Hong Kong or Macau may sit only on specific dates within each window, unlike candidates elsewhere who can pick any slot. Medicine and dentistry applicants must align with UCAT and similar test registration.

On fees, UCAS 2027 waives the application fee for eligible UK-domiciled students (free school meals in the past six years, or care leavers), but such waivers apply only to UK-domiciled applicants via a registered centre — Hong Kong international applicants generally pay the standard fee. Regardless of category, the reference must be complete before the application can be sent.

Practical advice: engrave 15 October and 13 January into your calendar; if Oxbridge or medicine/dentistry/veterinary is the target, finalise the personal statement over the summer and register for admissions tests; other applicants should arrange the five-choice gradient (reach, match, safety) before January and submit several days early to absorb late references and payment failures.
