RUG placements: accept within two weeks or the place moves on

RUG requires acceptance of confirmation of placement through Studielink within two weeks of receipt; otherwise the offer expires and the place passes on.

Step 4 of the University of Groningen registration page, "Results, confirmation of placement and lodging an appeal", states that ranking numbers are announced on 15 April 2027 and that confirmation of placement is sent through Studielink to students offered a place. The university explains the ranking mechanism: where a programme has a maximum of 100 places, students ranked 1 to 100 are offered a place, and those ranked 101 and above are offered places in turn if others do not accept in time. Students must accept via Studielink within two weeks of receipt, failing which "your offer will expire and the place will be automatically offered to the student on the waiting list". Anyone unable to accept in time may apply through the Selection and Placement form, and if approved receives confirmation of placement for the academic year following the year applied for. Appeals against selection decisions go to the Central Portal for the Legal Protection of Student Rights (CLRS) and must be lodged within six weeks. Elsewhere on the same page the deadlines table still reads "The ranking numbers will be announced on 15 April 2026".

Gradepath analysis

First, the clock starts on receipt, not on publication: the official wording is "within two weeks of receipt". Check Studielink and your registered email daily through late April, spam folder included, because there is no second chance. Second, the consequence is loss, not a penalty: the university's own sentence says the offer expires and the place is automatically passed to the waiting-list student, all handled by the system with no phone call to remind you. Third, the only remedy costs a year: late acceptance can be requested through the form, but approval yields confirmation for the academic year following the year you applied for. Fourth, a rank beyond 100 still has a chance: the university's own worked example has those ranked 101 and above offered places in turn as others decline, so do not give up immediately, but keep a second option ready. Fifth, disputes run on a six-week clock through the CLRS, with procedure set out in the Regulations for Selection and Placement. Sixth, note that this same page carries both 2026 and 2027 for the ranking announcement; we have a separate brief setting the two side by side, so do not read only one figure and conclude.
