UAC takes three qualifications from international students — DSE students apply direct
UAC accepts Australian Year 12, the IB Diploma and NCEA Level 3 only; everyone else applies direct.

Official notice
UAC's international applications and offers page states that to apply through UAC as an international student you must be undertaking in 2026, or have completed in 2025, one of three qualifications: an Australian Year 12 in or outside Australia, an International Baccalaureate Diploma, or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3. It states plainly that all other international students apply directly to the institutions, not through UAC. The same page lists the upcoming international dates: 5 November 2026, change your preferences by 11.59pm for offers released on 12 November; 12 November 2026, unconditional offers (including Year 12 SRS offers) released to international students at 7.30am; 10 December 2026, apply and pay by 11.59pm for offers released on 23 December; and 18 December 2026, change preferences by 11.59pm for offers released on 23 December. It also states that applicants may select up to six course preferences, that offers are released at 7.30am on each offer round date, that you can receive one offer per institution in each offer round, and carries a footnote warning you not to change your courses between the change-of-preference date and the date offers are released, as doing so may cost you an offer to your preferred course.
Gradepath analysis
The sentence most people miss is the eligibility one. Families in Hong Kong often treat UAC as "the Australian JUPAS" and assume everyone applies through it, but the official wording is clear: the international pathway recognises three qualifications and DSE is not among them. A DSE student aiming at institutions in NSW or the ACT applies directly to the institutions, not through a UAC account — taking the wrong route costs you the application fee and, worse, may cost you the institution's own early closing dates. IB students, by contrast, do use this pathway, and for them two dates matter: 11.59pm on 5 November closes changes for the 12 November round, and missing it pushes you to the December round. Note the official warning against touching your preferences between the closing date and offer release — many assume one last tweak before offers go out is harmless, when in fact it can cost you the offer you wanted. One more rule governs how you use the six slots: you receive one offer per institution per round, so filling all six with the same university throws away five chances. Spread them across institutions and put the most realistic one first.
