Official notice
The University of Groningen sets out the 2027–2028 numerus fixus timetable: applications open via Studielink on 1 October 2026 and close on 15 January 2027; applicants whose details are not verified by 15 February 2027 are excluded from selection; ranking numbers are published and places allocated by Studielink on 15 April 2027; proof of entry requirements is due by 15 July 2027 and tuition by 31 August 2027. You may apply to two numerus fixus programmes per academic year, with the number of selection attempts differing by programme: one for Dentistry, two for Medicine, and three for International Business and Psychology.
Gradepath analysis
The Netherlands is a high-value route into a European bachelor degree for Hong Kong students: a large number of English-taught programmes, tuition far below the UK or US, and degrees recognised across the EU. One hard trap sits inside the system, numerus fixus. Programmes with a fixed quota stop accepting applications after 15 January, and most select by lottery or selection test, so applying early brings no advantage; what matters is a complete file and performance in selection. The second trap is the chain of deadlines: a university only files your residence permit with the IND once admission is confirmed and fees are paid, so finishing after April eats into the September start. Third, Dutch bachelor programmes often specify subject prerequisites, and a DSE subject combination may not satisfy some engineering and science programmes, so check faculty by faculty. Applicants with non-Dutch qualifications may also pay an application fee, €100 at some institutions.
