78th Speech Festival: group classes list updated — the wrong form can disqualify you

The Association updated the 78S Group Classes competitors list at 10:00 a.m. on 28 October; competitors must download the latest version and bring it to the venue. Failure to present the correct documents may result in disqualification.

The Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association states in a homepage special announcement that the Competitors' List (Group Classes) for the 78th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival (78S) has been updated as of 10:00 a.m. on 28 October. Group Class competitors are asked to download this latest version, complete it and bring it to the competition venue; the Association states that failure to present the correct documents may result in disqualification.

The Association placed this as the first item in the yellow-boxed special announcement block on its homepage and used the word disqualification — about as strong as its notices get, so this is not a routine reminder. Group classes carry a different administrative risk from solo classes: a solo competitor handles their own paperwork, whereas the group class list is normally completed by the school or the teacher in charge, and students often see the form for the first time on the day itself, so which version is used is entirely outside their control. The trap is the timing gap — the list was updated on 28 October, but the live competition period does not begin until November; if the teacher in charge downloaded and pre-filled the form before 28 October, the copy in hand is the old one. What to do: about a week before the competition, ask the school or teacher which date the form was downloaded, and check it against the current version on the Association website. If the school has already pre-filled it, ask them to download it again and re-enter the details rather than reusing the old file. This announcement does not give individual dates or times for group classes; the schedule must be taken from what the school or the Association publishes separately, and this brief does not speculate on it.
