Three hard rules for InnoCarnival workshop sign-up: one online session per day, three people per walk-in queue, no overlapping times

The official timetable sets out when online sign-up opens, the one-session-per-day cap, and the quota and timing limits for walk-in registration.

Official notice

The official InnoCarnival 2026 physical workshop timetable page states that online registration opens at 10:30 am on Tuesday, 6 October 2026; that each participant may register online for at most one physical session on the same day (whether a physical workshop or a physical parent-child workshop, each counts as one physical session); and that participants who register online for physical activities must follow the instructions in the confirmation email and report at the designated location at the designated time. The page also sets out walk-in registration: a small number of places for the physical parent-child workshops held on Saturdays and Sundays are available for same-day walk-in registration, limited and first-come, first-served; walk-in registration starts at 9:45 am on the day; the walk-in registration location is 2/F, Building 10W, Phase 2, Hong Kong Science Park. Four notes apply to walk-in registration: (1) each person queuing may register for at most three participants and at most two physical sessions on the same day (whether physical workshops or physical parent-child workshops, each counts as one physical session); (2) participants must choose activities appropriate to their grade or age, and the times of the activities registered for must not overlap (this includes both physical activities and online talks); (3) walk-in registration applies only to workshops held on that day; and (4) walk-in places are limited, first-come, first-served, until full. The page also notes that online remaining places are for reference only and that the actual number is determined at the time online registration is successfully submitted, and that all activity times follow the standard time shown by the Hong Kong Observatory time server, with participants asked to synchronise the clock on the phone or watch they bring for reporting before setting off.

Gradepath analysis

What these rules have in common is that nobody warns you in advance when you break one — the consequence only surfaces at the reporting desk, and there is no way to fix it then. Three are easy to trip over. First, "at most one session on the same day" is a hard cap for online registration. Parents often book a morning and an afternoon session on the same day, but the system will only accept one; if you genuinely want two sessions in a day, the only route the organiser offers is walk-in registration (up to three participants per queue, up to two sessions on the same day). Second, activity times must not overlap, and the rule covers physical activities "and" online talks. An online talk does not take up a seat, but it does take up a slot; booking a talk and a workshop in the same slot counts as an overlap under the official rules. Third, remaining online places are "for reference only" — the number on the page is not a promise, and the official wording says the actual number is fixed at the moment registration is successfully submitted, so seeing 13 does not mean 13 will still be there ten seconds later. Two further operational details need planning: walk-in registration starts at 9:45 am at 2/F, Building 10W, Phase 2, Hong Kong Science Park, and applies only to workshops held that day, so you cannot queue the day before; and after successful online registration, you must report at the designated place and time stated in the confirmation email, since arriving late amounts to giving up the place. Activity times follow the Hong Kong Observatory time server, and the organiser explicitly asks you to synchronise your phone or watch before leaving home so that your clock matches theirs at reporting. Action: put your target sessions and reporting times into your daily quest, and check the official timetable once more the night before.
