Groningen 2027-28 Numerus Fixus: Official Places and Selection Method for All Five Programmes
The University of Groningen publishes 2027-28 numerus fixus places: Medicine 400, International Business 400, Psychology (Dutch track) 365, Psychology (English track) 225 and Dentistry 69.

The University of Groningen's official numerus fixus page, under "Overzicht numerus fixusopleidingen 2027-2028", states that the university has five numerus fixus bachelor's programmes and lists the places for each: Medicine 400, International Business 400, Psychology (Dutch track) 390, Psychology (English track) 225 and Dentistry 69. The figures below are those published on 26 October 2026; the university revised the Dutch-track Psychology figure without a separate notice, which we cover in a separate brief. The same page sets out two selection routes: an unweighted lottery (ongewogen loting) and selection on quality (selectie op basis van kwaliteit). Medicine, Psychology (Dutch track) and Dentistry select by lottery; International Business and Psychology (English track) select on the results of tests held within the selection procedure.
Gradepath analysis
First, these figures are hard caps, not enrolment targets: Dentistry has 69 places against 400 each for Medicine and International Business, so the odds are not remotely comparable, and programme choice should follow the cap rather than the reputation. Second, the selection route decides where your effort goes. For the three lottery programmes the university states that motivation and grades are not considered and that every valid application has an equal chance, so filing early buys nothing and the only ways to lose are an incomplete file or a missed deadline. For the two quality-selection programmes the outcome rests on selection test results, so preparation belongs in the test rather than the personal statement. Third, Psychology is split into a Dutch track and an English track, with places listed separately (390 and 225) and selection run per track, so apply to the correct one. Fourth, places do not grow because you apply early: the hard deadline is still 15 January (the full timeline is in our Netherlands route brief), so spend the time on file completeness and test preparation rather than rushing to submit on the day registration opens.
