Groningen's Own Deadline Table Contradicts Itself: 2027 Labels, 2025/2026 Text
In the University of Groningen's numerus fixus deadline table the date column reads 2027, while the explanations still say applications open on 1 October 2025 and close on 15 January 2026 — two different years in the same row.

On the University of Groningen's official numerus fixus page, the "Overzicht belangrijke deadlines" table lists in its date column 15 January 2027, 15 February 2027, 15 April 2027, 15 July 2027 and 31 August 2027. The explanation in the first row reads "Dit kan vanaf 1 oktober 2025 en de aanmelding sluit op 15 januari 2026" (you can apply from 1 October 2025 and registration closes on 15 January 2026), and the third row reads "Op 15 april 2026 worden de rangnummers bekendgemaakt" (ranking numbers are published on 15 April 2026). Two different years therefore appear in the same row, with no explanation on the page. The top of the same page states "Deadline: 15 januari 2027" and the programme overview is headed "Overzicht numerus fixusopleidingen 2027-2028".

The first lesson is blunt: official pages contradict themselves too, and here the contradiction sits in the one cell that matters most — the application deadline. The date column and the explanatory text are a full year apart, and the university does not say which governs, so this brief can only set both side by side and cannot decide for you. Second, here is the safe procedure. The page header "Deadline: 15 januari 2027" and the "2027-2028" programme overview both point to 2027, and only the table text remains on the previous year — but that is still inference. What you can actually verify is Studielink: once you log in the system only lets you choose the intake year that is currently open, and whichever year it shows is the real one, which is more reliable than reading the website. If Studielink and the webpage still disagree, write to the university for written confirmation and keep the reply. Third, why you cannot gamble: the same table states that personal details must be verified by 15 February, failing which "your participation in the selection procedure ends and a selection attempt is used up" — a hard rule with no late-submission mechanism, so missing it is not a fine, it is elimination. Fourth, carry the habit into every application: whenever a university or government site is updated around the turn of the year, check the year in the header and heading first, then the year in the table text, and when the two disagree treat the system or the written reply as authoritative.
