Official notice

The 27th Lions International Youth Exchange English Public Speaking Competition is themed Shaping My Hong Kong: A Gen Alpha Blueprint and is open to S4 to S6 students aged 15 to 18. Preliminary entries require a video reel of up to 90 seconds submitted by 23:59 on 10 November 2026; semi-finals take place on 28 November as a 15-minute group oral discussion, and the grand final on 12 December as a five-minute live speech.

Gradepath analysis

The value here goes well beyond the trophy — the top ten win full overseas exchange scholarships, and impromptu English defence is precisely the skill newly-arrived students lack most. Ninety seconds sounds easy and is not: it forces a closed loop of claim, evidence and conclusion in minimal time, and the usual weakness is over-long set-up with the point buried at the end. With about a month left, the work is not reciting to a camera but compressing the argument into something sayable in thirty seconds.
