Gradepath analysis
The biggest misconception among Hong Kong candidates is treating the JLPT level as proof of how many textbooks you have finished. Work backwards: check the Japanese requirement of your target faculty first, since most ask for N2 or an EJU Japanese score above 200, while graduate schools and Japanese employers commonly ask for N1, and then choose your level. Second, the JLPT tests reading and listening only, not writing or speaking. Most Japanese faculties also require the EJU written Japanese section (50 marks), so a JLPT certificate alone is not a complete application. Third, results are usually published one to two months after the test, with the December sitting typically reported in late January; always confirm the exact date with the official announcement.
