2026 P1 Admission: Age Rule, Discretionary and Central Allocation Dates

For P1 in Sept 2026, children must be born on or before 31 Dec 2020; discretionary applications go via the e-platform 18–26 Sept, one government/aided school per child.

The EDB announced that all Hong Kong children born on or before 31 December 2020, not yet in primary school and never allocated a P1 place, may apply for the 2026 September “Primary One Admission System”. Applications are fully electronic; parents use the “P1 Admission e-platform” (epoa.edb.gov.hk) bound with “iAM Smart+” to submit and check results.

In the discretionary stage, school choice is not restricted by school net — parents may apply to any government or aided primary school. But each child may submit only one application; applying to more than one such school voids the discretionary application. Two categories exist: siblings/parents on staff are guaranteed a place; the rest are allocated by a scoring scale.

Key dates: discretionary results are viewable from 10am on 24 November 2025, with registration on 26–27 November; unsuccessful applicants choose schools for central allocation via the e-platform 19–25 January 2026, results release from 10am on 3 June, and registration on 9–10 June.

Note: DSS, private and ESF primary places are outside the system — apply to those schools directly. The residential address must be truthful; a false address is a criminal offence. See the EDB for details.
