For 2026/27, the mainland scheme admitting Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education students covers 165 institutions, raised from the previous year. The minimum standard is 332A across the four core subjects, or 221A for arts and sports programmes. Applicants may list up to four universities with four programmes each, and sequential allocation returns a single offer. Online registration typically takes place in December.
Gradepath analysis
This is the highest-value backup route available: no extra entrance exam, tuition far below overseas study, and subsidies of HK$5,900 to HK$19,400 a year. Two hidden gates trip families most often — the Mainland Travel Permit or residence permit must be valid, and processing time alone can sink the application; and because allocation is sequential with one offer only, listing a first-choice university second is effectively forfeiting it. December registration is under eight weeks away.
